Michele Burnett

  post-script

                        for Tim

                                    I touch
                                    I am touched
                                    I have been touched

                                                            they are all one

frantically she scans the
newspaper day after day looking for those
gone missing in the
war
faces come to her, eyes looking

she knows that he is dead
because his words come to her in the night
                        shadows dance on the ceiling
the air is cold inside her nose, her
                        throat, his chest

                        it enters like an
                        icicle tearing
